Congregational Care

OUR PURPOSE:

To oversee lay activities of Pastoral Care for the congregation, develop and coordinate opportunities for Christian fellowship, and provide spiritual nurture and caring support for members.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Support of Caregiving Programs

a.     Regular visitation (designed to provide spiritual, physical and emotional support to church members)

b.     Caring-In-Action (provides short-term practical support to church members in time of need)

c.      Memorial Receptions (provide a warm and compassionate atmosphere for family and friends to gather following a memorial or funeral service)

d.     NeighborCare (through a network of neighborhood groups, hospitality is extended to members as well as new members moving into the area)

e.  Stephen Ministries at BMPC is now a Stephen Ministries congregation. Stephen Ministries is system through which members of BMPC are trained and organized to help provide Christian caregiving to members of our congregation and community.

f.      Ongoing training, nurture, and continuing support for all caregivers.

2.       Support for seminars and support groups presented by The Herbert H. Middleton, Jr. Center for Pastoral Care and Counseling

a.       Separated and Divorced

b.       Bereavement

c.       Parenting

d.       Vocational transitions

e.       Addictive and co-dependent relationships

f.        Chronic and terminally ill

g.       Caregivers of family members

h.       Engaged couples.

 

3.       Provide opportunities for spiritual nurture through

a.       Prayer

b.       Weekly prayer groups

c.       Spirituality retreats

d.       Spiritual direction

e.       Healing and Wholeness services (monthly)

f.        Spiritual pilgrimages.

 

4.       Provide opportunities to gather for fellowship

a.       PrimeTime (ages 50+)

b.       Couples Supper Clubs

c.       Singles Dining Clubs

d.       Hospitality between worship services (with New Member Council)

e.       Summer Celebration

f.        Saturday Men’s Group.

 

5.       Coordinate and facilitate selected annual congregational calling.

 

6.       Coordinate and maintain Communications Bulletin Board in the Ministries Center.

 

7.       Coordinate greeters for Sunday worship services.

 

8.       Support Hosts for Hospitals (a local program of in-home hospitality for families and patients).

 

9.       Provide support for members and their families serving in the military overseas.

 

10. Through our Care Manager, BMPC can offer:

    • Information and Referral

    • Visits to the Home

    • Telephone Consultations

    • Psychosocial Assessments

    • Care Plan Development

    • Arrangements for In-Home Care

    • Recommendations for Alternative Living Arrangements
