Lyric Fest Concert: An die Nacht

Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church welcomes Lyric Fest for An die Nacht, a powerful exploration of one of the defining themes of German Romanticism: the night as a reflection of the inner self, the spiritual realm, and the mysteries of the infinite.
Curated by Randall Scarlata, this evocative program explores how composers and poets have used the imagery of night to express longing, wonder, solitude, transcendence, and the search for meaning. Through the intimate and expressive art of German song, audiences will experience works by some of the great composers of the Romantic and early modern eras, including Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Strauss, Mendelssohn, Wolf, Marx, and Berg.
The concert features Meredith Wohlgemuth, Randall Scarlata, and Will Ferguson, with Laura Ward, piano, bringing together exceptional voices and musicianship in a program that invites deep listening and reflection.
Before the concert, join us for a special pre-concert talk at 2:15 p.m. featuring Susan Youens, one of the world’s foremost authorities on German art song. Her presentation will explore the meaning and significance of night in the German Romantic tradition, offering insight into the poetry and music that shape this program.
