Printmaking Class
Hand-Printed Monotypes
Fridays, January 22 – February 19
Fine Arts Center
Explore the expressive world of hand-printed monotypes in this five-week workshop led by artist Lauren Hallquist Anderson. Whether you're an experienced artist or trying printmaking for the first time, this class offers a welcoming environment to experiment, create, and discover new ways of making art.
A monotype is a unique form of printmaking that produces a single, one-of-a-kind image rather than a repeatable edition. Using ink applied to a smooth surface and transferred by hand—without the need for a printing press—you'll learn techniques that combine the spontaneity of painting with the rich textures of printmaking.
Throughout the workshop, participants will explore a variety of creative approaches, including:
- Additive and subtractive inking techniques
- Layering and ghost prints
- Texture and mark-making with everyday tools
- Stencils and mixed media
- Water-soluble inks and watercolor techniques
- Hand-printing methods using simple tools such as brayers and wooden spoons
With demonstrations, guided instruction, and plenty of time for experimentation, you'll be encouraged to embrace the creative process rather than strive for perfection. The class emphasizes exploration, curiosity, and developing your own visual language through printmaking.
This workshop is designed for all skill levels, and no prior printmaking experience is required.
The class is offered in conjunction with the gallery exhibition Impressions, featuring Lauren Hallquist Anderson's work. Participants will have the opportunity to gain insight into the techniques and artistic processes behind the exhibition while creating original prints of their own.
Registration is required.
