Benevolences

2015-2016 Benevolence Donations from the 2015 Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Presbyterian Women’s Appeal:

The Village—Support for Education: $2,000
PW’s donation will help support the special education needs of disadvantaged girls that participate in the residential treatment program and attend theVillage’s on-campus school. The school operates year round to ensure girls in treatment maintain their academic education and can easily return to their home school upon discharge.

Arch Street PreSchool: $1,500
Located at 1724 Arch Street, Philadelphia and connected to Arch Street Presbyterian Church, Arch Street Pre School has a diverse student population of 39 with many children coming from the immediate neighborhood. Arch Street Preschool recently was granted 5013-C status, and they have been raising monies in order to offer scholarships to students in need. Our donation will be used to help renovate an outdoor play space which provides a transition space from work to home. Having a space for families to be able to sit and unwind can make a difference in their lives.

WePAC Open Books Open Minds Library Initiative: $750
PW’s donation will help WePAC plant “6 Little Free Libraries” in the Philadelphia Community. This library is a box full of books that will be placed in partner churches, community centers, etc. where community members do not have easy access to books. It is a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. WePAC will work with their partners to stock the Little Free Libraries with books as they are needed.

Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Tutoring Program: $500
BMPC’s Tutoring Program brings together 130 elementary school children from North Philadelphia and high school students from the western suburbs who provide weekly one-on-one help with reading and writing skills. In addition to working toward academic goals, the program helps children and tutors grow in self-confidence, learn about each other’s worlds, and develop friendships. PW’s donation will help pay for transporting students to BMPC and other needs.

BMPC Youth Peru Mission Trip: $1,250
High school youth and leaders will assist in a mission project in Peru in July. PW’s donation will help finance a capital improvement project that will continue to support the community BMPC youth are serving this summer.

BMPC Upward Sports Basketball Program: $1,000
Developed by a special education teacher and a Special Olympics basketball coach, BMPC’s Upward Basketball is a positive sports experience for children with different physical and learning abilities.
