This Sunday, November 3, there will be a special commemoration of All Saints as we remember and give thanks to God for the lives of our church members who have entered the church triumphant. Those who have died within the year since last All Saints Sunday will be remembered by name during the celebration of the Lord’s Supper at both of our morning services. As we gather around the communion table to enjoy a foretaste of a heavenly banquet to come, we will recall the great crowd of witnesses who have gone on before.
The 10:00 a.m. service in the Sanctuary also will include glorious music beginning with the Sanctuary Choir singing John Tavener’s stirring “Song for Athene,” a work that uses texts from Hamlet and the Russian Orthodox service. Mystical in spirit, it achieves a breathtaking climax after the text, “weeping at the grave creates the song: Alleluia!”
We are pleased the Youth Chorale and Children’s Choir will help lead the service with Tom Shelton’s modern setting of “Pie Jesu.” At the offering, we will offer one of the most iconic anthems of the 20th century, Edgar Bainton’s “And I Saw a New Heaven.”
Along with this special music throughout the service, the hymns, sermon and communion liturgy will reflect our hope in the resurrection.
We extend a special invitation to family of members who have died to let them know that the names of their loved ones will be remembered aloud during the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Many of these special guests join us for worship on All Saints Sunday.
