A church member recently shared with me that in parenthood, "the days are long, but the years are fast." As a parent, I'm regularly reminded that our children are growing up in a culture that is changing more quickly than at any other time in history.
Without fully realizing it, the days pass by us and we can easily get caught up in the demands of work and social commitments. Without stopping to reflect in the midst of all our activity, we can be left unsure of how to handle the challenges that emerge in family life.
Now as much as ever, our children are getting messages from the culture that seek to define their identity. They might receive these messages while watching a YouTube video or streaming music online. As caring adults, how do we know if we are communicating as effectively with our children as well as the technology around us?
This Sunday afternoon we are hosting a conversation around the topic of adolescent sexuality. While offered for parents, the discussion will be relevant to anyone who cares for or interacts with young people. We have invited a panel of experts who will have a great deal of wisdom to share with us about one of the most sensitive subjects to talk about with youth and children.
As people of faith, God doesn't expect us to always know the right thing to say at the right time, but we can always learn from and grow with one another. When we take the time to stop and reflect on the most important issues, we learn and grow.
The stronger our communication and family relationships, the better equipped we'll be to handle the challenges of family life. As a church, we are a family of faith. Let's learn alongside one another and grow as parents, caring adults, and disciples of Christ.
