I am very excited about the Reverend Dr. Brian Blount coming next weekend as our Theologian in Residence and hope that you will take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity. Brian is not only a fine biblical scholar, but he also presents his keen insights about the intersection of the biblical tradition and contemporary faith in easily accessible and understandable ways. He was a pastor before he pursued his doctoral studies and loves the church with a pastor’s heart.
President and professor of New Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Brian is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (B.A.), Princeton Seminary (M.Div.) and Emory University (Ph.D.) His most recent book, Invasion of the Dead: Preaching Resurrection, is based on his 2011 Yale Beecher Lectures. The author of numerous books and articles, his biblical scholarship has focused on the Gospel of Mark and the Revelation to John. We are privileged to have him lecture and preach on Mark with the following schedule:
Shortly after the long pastorate of the Reverend Dr. David Watermulder, a fund was established in 1987 to honor the service of Dave and Ruth Watermulder to BMPC by supporting a Theologian in Residence program. We are grateful that their faithful service gave rise to this ongoing opportunity for this congregation to host leading scholars for a weekend of biblical and theological enrichment.
I hope that you will join us to hear and engage with the Reverend Dr. Brian Blount next weekend, October 17-18.
