Welcome

Agnes W. Norfleet

The Rev. Dr. Agnes W. Norfleet, was called to be the 8th pastor of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church and began her ministry here in January, 2013. In addition to her pastoral and preaching ministry, her early years were focused on leading the church to greater fiscal health following a long interim season, working with laity to call a wonderful team of associate pastors, working with key leaders to assess campus wide needs for capital revitalization. The church launched the ambitious This Time This Place capital campaign and raised over $21 million to renovate the Education Building and Ministries Center, build the Atrium and add additional funds to our benevolences for support of youth mission trips and to strengthen local and global mission partnerships.

While preaching and administration are her primary roles at BMPC, Agnes has a special interest outreach and mission, and Christian education for all ages. She enjoys working with the wonderful team of colleagues the church has assembled for music leadership, pastoral ministry and program. Together with the leadership of 150th Vision Team the church celebrated its sesquicentennial by adopting a vision to strengthen our ministries as a community of welcome and service.

A graduate of Davidson College, and Union Presbyterian Seminary, she earned a D. Min. in Bible and Preaching from Columbia Theological Seminary. Ordained in 1987, she has previously served as Associate Pastor for Community Ministry at Central Presbyterian, Atlanta; Pastor of North Decatur Presbyterian Church in Decatur, GA., from 1992-2005, and Pastor of Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC, from 2005-2012.

Agnes’ family includes her husband, Larry Arney, an architect who currently works with Project HOME, a Philadelphia non-profit organization working to alleviate homelessness; and two young adult sons, James and Winston. when they are away from Bryn Mawr, their family's center of gravity is their cottage in Montreat, NC, where they enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, hiking and hosting lifelong friends.
