This Sunday, January 31, we will hold our Congregational Meeting via Zoom for the first time, and we hope that those who are able will attend. A link to biographical information about each nominee for Elder, Deacon, Trustee and this year’s Nominating Committee is provided in this eNews, and a link is available on the homepage of the BMPC website. Also, the Zoom information for this meeting is included in this eNews, and it will be in this Sunday’s Worship eNews.
I am grateful for the technology that has enabled us to stay connected during this long pandemic season while we cannot be together in person but can still be the church together. In the tradition of our Presbyterian polity, pastors, elders and deacons give answers to the same Ordination Vows, and I am particularly mindful of one we are living into in heretofore unimaginable ways:
Will you pray for and seek to serve the people
with energy, intelligence, imagination and love?
Energy. Intelligence. Imagination. Love. How could we have possibly continued being the church in this unusual time without these precious spiritual gifts? They have enabled us to be creative in worship, Christian education and nurture. They have been stretched to grow as we have found new ways to be gathered and sent. They have provided a generous outpouring of goodwill and service among our church family and in the far reaches of our outreach and mission.
This Sunday’s Congregational Meeting is a celebration of these spiritual gifts. In this extraordinary time, people have been called and said Yes to serve the church in a heightened capacity of leadership and service. These friends bring many and various gifts to the offices they have agreed to fill, but the common unifying attributes are energy, intelligence, imagination and love for God, for the church of Jesus Christ, and for this congregation. I hope you will join in the celebration on Sunday and welcome their leadership and service in the years to come!
