Around this time last year, we canceled our annual Good Friday service led by BMPC youth because of the pandemic. Now, amid all the fluctuating wisdom concerning COVID-19, the youth department sought to figure out a way to have an in-person Good Friday event accessible and safe for everyone. As such, this coming Good Friday, April 2, youth will lead Outdoor Prayer Stations from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the front lawn of the church.
Prayer Stations are a creative, interactive way to invite the Spirit into prayer. These stations seek to engage all our senses and different learning styles. The hope is that prayer might be more accessible and absorbing for all ages by using these various activities. Participants will have the opportunity to write prayers, create a piece of a collaborative artwork, move their bodies or hands as a way to encounter God in new and creative ways.
The youth in our high school leadership group, Student Serve, are working diligently to create prayer stations that will challenge participants to consider Maundy Thursday and Good Friday's significant events. The Last Supper, Jesus' prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane, his trials with Herod and then Pilate, his witness of the crowd's condemnation, crucifixion and burial will all be incorporated to help each of us contemplate these last days of Jesus.
BMPC youth invite all members and guests to walk through the stations, participating in the prayer stations independently or with their family members. The prayer stations will be approachable for all ages, and as such, young children are more than welcome. The event will follow CDC guidelines and will require participants to wear masks and practice social distancing.
